Mags, Fags, and Rags; or Happiness In Dirty Print Form
But don't just take our word for it (although our word is the best), hear what others are saying about TRY STATE:
"Try State Magazine, the new biannual publication by Robert & Robert has its finger on the pulse of contemporary art. With its sleek & minimalist design it is a curated showcase of the world’s most interesting artists, photographers and writers. What makes Try State so appealing is the layout which truly showcases the work. Far from the congested look of popular rags, each image is not only carefully chosen but also displayed as if it were in a gallery.
The combination of established artists including celebrity photographer Austin Young whose credits include Deborah Harry, Margaret Cho and Siouxie Sioux mixed with emerging artist Csaba Faludi ( Budapest) raw fetish type images allows us to follow a journey into bodies, portraits and self exhibition. Some of my favorite internet bloggers and emerging photographers such as Stuart Sandford, Luke Gilford, Sylvain Norget’s Naked Rabbit Project, Robbeyond and Luigi and Luca from Barcelona all contribute, making each turn of the page exciting and naughty.
The premiere issue features cover art by Fabulous and talented Gio Black Peter, a young Guatamalan immigrant who continues to stimulate the senses with his visual works, multimedia experimental pieces and musical talent / stage presence. Makes me want to clap my hands and drop my pants.
Try State is light on the written word, one poem, one musical review ( forgotten eighties band) and the quirky/witty “Confessions of a Fag Hag” is a cornucopia of how to keep your boys entertained while maintaining your own sanity.
Almost as impressive as the work is Try State’s contemporary interest list which reads as a modern day Social Registry. The contacts of this desired publication includes fifty of the world’s top Art Collectors, several billionaires and a who’s who of International Gallery Owners, Curators, Editors, Designers, Nightlife Celebutantes and Artists. Try State’s connections run deep into the Scene.
In total Try State brings back the excitement of finding my father’s playboy magazine in the in bathroom cabinet. i want to flip through each page quickly to see what is inside, then go through it slowly examining every page, image by image, piece by piece.
Robert and Robert claim to bring you “quality, trash, art, nudes, fetish, homos, fairies, punks, gossip and fashion victims. They deliver!

Father and Son BUTT; or Stories That Stir The Shit
We ran across an interesting story the other day through our friends over at BUTT Magazine (yes we do actually read things, we don't just look at dirty pics all day), and it started such a shit storm of controversy that we thought we should share it with you and see what you thought of it. Its about a young (hes under 30) gay dad named Zachery (who also happens to be really fuckin hot...and single...) and the circumstances that led him to becoming a father and where he is at now. It sounds kind of normal, but once you read the full story, you will see where the controversy comes in. The comments were a flying like shit at a hill billy pie eating contest (don't ask), and we found it interesting to see how different the opinions of so many Homos were. Here is the first part of the story, and if your interested, click on the link to read the rest of it and see what you think. We would love to know what you think about this story so feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of the post:
"My life has been redefined by this statistic, “The odds of getting pregnant from a one-time sexual encounter are about 11%.” I often think if it can happen, yes, it will happen to me. Now, I’m a single gay dad under thirty, that didn’t adopt, didn’t get married and isn’t bisexual, and inadvertently ends up with a best friend getting pregnant from the solitary experience."

Our friends over at BUTT Magazine have also been up to their usual bag of tricks, pics and dicks, working hard to bring us the next issue, which is just hot off the press and ready for you to get your dirty little paws on (fortunate for us, we have our advance copy already, and NO...you cant borrow it). Issue #26 is full of amazing stuff, once again.
The super dreamy and well endowed nose homo Ed Droste (why is his fucking nose so damn sexy...aurghh) interviews the fantastic Nico Muhly, and its a really good read. We like to read this article while wearing super nerdy glasses, tighty whities and knee high sport socks, all the while thoughtfully stroking our beard for effect. Theres also a spread (whether we mean literally or not, you will have to get your own copy to find out) with Aiden Shaw, the legendary porn star that just doesn't quit. We were quite surprised to see him in the magazine, and the section with him in it might be a bit worn and dog eared already, but oh well. Check out the complete list of items in issue #26 :

Great things come in tight little boxes; or we love hot homoporn in our mail box
Mondays can be fun, especially when we get something fantastic in the mail. We popped down to the old mail box this morning, expecting to find the regular bills, flyers and noise complaints spewing from our tight little box (what....our mail box IS small), but instead, we received a copy of a fantastic little magazine called BLOWJOB , published by the 28 year old Johnny Murdoc out of St. Louis, MO, accompanied with a cute little hand written note thanking us. What a treat.
This great little magazine is part dirty fiction and part illustration and 100% fucking awesome jerk off material. "Two stories five illustrations for $2" is the description, and its simplicity is clean yet edgy. It brings us back to the good old days before we had instant around the clock access to porn and had to actually use our imaginations to get off. Back when we had to rely on Sears catalog underwear sections and the one gay porn mag we stole from the corner mart that was so dog eared and worn that we had to tape it back together. The art of erotic story telling has become a lost art, and were glad to see that someone has revived it and brought it back to life. Its classic and nostalgic, and what better to go with our nostalgic mood from sunday, than to thumb through BLOWJOB magazine and remember where it all started for us.
The two short stories, "Julius hipster boy" and "Dicksucker; or the girl in 4B", are both written by Johnny Murdoc and have a very interesting perspective and style about them. Sometimes funny and light hearted, sometimes, hitting very close to home, they have an intense reality about them. As we read them aloud to each other, we sometimes had to pause to look at each other, wondering if they are real experiences he is recounting to us, or if its the cleaver trick of a very talented writer. We are going for the latter but there is a certain hotness to the thought that maybe there is some truth to the stories. On his blog, you can listen to him read the story aloud on an audio player, and even download it in MP3 format to take with you for those long business trip or walks in the park. Dirty stories to go, what a great idea.
The five illustrations consist of ink and brush drawings by Johnny, of penises he has seen on the internet. Each drawing comes with a link to the actual picture on the web that the drawing was done from, and we are glad to say that the pictures they come from are pretty fantastic too. There's something interesting about discovering the connection between the drawings and the original pictures. The combination of seeing both of them together reveals a dimension of interplay, creating a new sense of reality for both of the pictures. Our minds start to wonder, imagining Johnny carefully choosing the photos of male genitals to draw from and him then sketching out the beautiful phalluses, connecting them to each other.
Check out his blog for more great dirty fiction and an ongoing posting of some fantastic artists from all over. His iCandy posts are a great cross section of male affectionado in its many forms, something we love here at the magazine. We love our ever changing taste in men, and we recognize the beauty in diversity, and we love that he does as well.

WLTF...sure would!
How do you define porn? How do you define art? Is there a difference between the two things if they both contain similar content? Well we certainly think so. This is, in some small and weird way, what we are trying to discuss with the creation of BLEW magazine. Well, in our recent searches for meaning on this topic, we came across an amazing little publication, "WLTF", out of Sao Paulo, Brazil (home of the hottest boys, according to the creator Rodrigo Novaes, and we are not about to argue with him here). Its cleaver name, derived from an acronym im sure you have seen before (stop pretending right now that you have never trolled for boy poon in chat rooms before). Well for those of you who are living in denial, "WLTF" stands for "Would Like To Fuck". We became instant fans when we first saw the title of the magazine, and we just knew (by the tingling of our naughty bits) that this was going to be something fanfuckingtastic.
Here is a little bit from there "about" section of the magazine to give you a better idea of what they are trying to do here:
"What is WLTF?
WLTF is an original, international project without precedent that I run and edit independently with some help from very talented people from around the world.
It is an online project that will also become a publication on paper. I call it a magazine, but prefer to use it in inverted commas "magazine", because it is more than that, it is a gallery, a network, a platform, a publication and much more. I couldn't find a good enough term that could encompass everything, so magazine seemed like a good enough way to describe it.
WLTF is aimed purely at art photography and ideas that are about or deals in some way with sexual desire without being purely pornographic.
WLTF is about the subjective expression of our inner-most desires and all of the different readings that the juxtaposition of images and ideas can potentially generate.
Every online issue is dedicated to images only, and all of the work is edited in juxtaposition as opposed to linear editing by author. The print version will also encompass the work we are developing on the blog, with interviews, features and articles.
For the online version I collect a diverse range of images from the Internet, with the authors' permission and collaboration. The central concept of WLTF is to explore a notion of sexuality that goes beyond issues of gender and sexual preference. In its first 6 months of life WLTF has attracted contributors from all over the globe, which gives it a very strong international edge."
The list of creatives attached to the 3 issues already published are long and impressive, but not exclusive in any way. There is work by well known artists (to the underground art world), side by side with amateur and fledgling artists of all levels of experience. The submissions range from the intensely bizarre, fucked up and strange, to the stunningly beautiful and surreal work from a wide and diverse range of talent from all over this planet. They accept and want "images" and not necessarily photos, and submissions don't have to be polished, refined or edited. In fact they encourage the raw and rough styles of work that brings a new and interesting edge to exploring sexuality through images. They choose challenging and stimulating works that juxtapose and push the boundaries of normal assumptions and ideas about sexuality. It shows that they know what the hell they are doing, by their selection of images in the first 3 issues published. We also love that they don't push any single idea or theory on you, but rather are more interested in exploring and exhibiting all sides of sexuality.
They are currently accepting submissions for Issue #4, so if your interested in putting together something, then read on to find out what the next issue is all about:
Title: ME: MUSCLES & I
Brief by guest Editor: Stéphane Malysse
Between the “body-sign” and the “instrumental body”, between what we can do with our body (visible on TV, beach and other public spaces), and what we have to do with our body (body manner), considering our free will, the “body-ego” seems to have stimulated several personalities, which incorporate individually the identity images of others bodies...
“Change your body, change your life” or “ You can have the body you want”... in its shape, as well as in its gender. By means of complex mechanisms of body stereotype assimilation, the body becomes a virtual surface, a place where sexual and social identities are nurtured. Saturated of stereotypes the body seems like an unfinished painting, and becomes an auto-plastic object. What is the body capable of? What can I do to be who I want to be? What muscles have to do with me?
WLTF is open to you, yes YOU. It doesn’t matter who you are, all we care about is what you yearn for, deep down inside, in those hard to reach places. And if you can interpret that in images, then that is what we want from you.
We want images of anything that turns you on and for WLTF #4 you can interpret “ME: MUSCLES AND I” in whichever way you like. Think literal or lateral, go off on a tangent, you decide.
It doesn’t matter if they are not perfect photographs, with perfect lighting and exemplary post-production, WE WANT IMAGES, because images are more interesting than photographs. Images are ultimately about you, and that is what turns us ON.
It can be old, published and re-published, or something new, fresh from the camera, as long as you think fits to the theme “ME: MUSCLES AND I”
Between 1 to 6 images by 25 March 2009 to
submit@wltf-mag.com
We know we will be watching closely to see what fantastic stuff comes out next.

Interview with Fantastic Homo publisher Christopher Schulz of PINUPS Magazine

I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. I've always been fond of printed matter. As a kid I made mix tapes just so I could design the J-cards. My family has always been very encouraging of my involvement in art and I ended up going to an arts high school and later to The School of the Art Institute of Chicago where I dabbled in lighting design, printmaking, and designed objects. Obviously much of this has influenced my work—moreso my process, not so much the content.
§ Do you think of yourself as gay and do you identify with any sort of gay subculture group, such as the “bear” or “leather” communities?
I am gay and I do identify as gay. I'm not into leather and I've never understood why it's so closely linked with Bear culture. Bearish men tend to like leather I suppose? Personally I'm attracted to big bellied, full-faced hairy men so naturally I find many Bearish men attractive. I don't cling to the terminology very much (although I jokingly dish out some nomenclature like "I gotta go wash my paws—hahaha!") but I certainly don't get hung up on splitting hairs. For instance, Pinups isn't about Bears per se but I've over heard guys arguing over whether the models are Bears or Cubs. I don't know why it's so important to some. I'm pretty sure there isn't a rule book.
§ What do you think of gay culture as it exists in New York right now?
There are many gay cultures in New York and it's easy to fall into a bubble, which is proably a good thing and a bad thing depending on how you look at it.
§ Are you a home body or are you more of a social butterfly, like hanging out in pubs and bars, shows, movies, events and things, out in parks and walking around?
I'm a home body more and more which is sort of ironic since I've become more of a party promoter through doing launch parties. When I set out to do Pinups I had no idea I'd be planning parties.
§ Do you own a TV and if so, do you have cable?
I own a TV and a DVD player so that I can watch movies. The only time I watch TV networks is when I'm on a plane or at a friend's place. I love Rupaul's new show Drag Race—it's such a farce! I hate most TV though. I don't even get basic TV.
§ What is in your pockets right now....and no thats not a dirty question....ok maybe it is?
The same three things I don't leave home without: keys, wallet and phone. Oh, and some change. Man I hate change.
§ Have you slept with any of the models for your magazine, are they friends of yours….?
All of the models are friends of mine and I share a history with a few of them but I've never used the magazine to sleep with any of them. It's important to remain professional during the shoot because I want the models to be as comfortable as possible. The magazine really isn't about sex so it doesn't come up during the shoots.
§ How did you start up the magazine, do you have prior experience with publishing or did you go to school for anything involving the publishing of a magazine?
I made a few zines when I was in high school. That was my only experience. When I tried to start up Pinups I really struggled because I had no money and it was difficult to get in touch with printers to figure out cost and production. I looked around for about a year before I decided to make it the old fashioned way. The first year the magazine was printed using Xerox. Now I have the magazine printed offset on a sheetfed press.
§ Are you a very sexual person?
Depends on who I'm with.
§ Do you believe in marriage and forever?
I don't believe in either but I do believe in happiness and that it can be attained without marriage or the notion of forever.
§ What’s the weirdest or dirtiest thing someone has ever said to you?
Someone really wanted me to beat him up during sex. He kept asking me to punch him in the face. That was weird. It really turned me off.
§ Do you like porn?
As far as the industry stuff, I like some vintage porn. Apart from that I like ameture porn (unless it's taken with a computer camera or phone—yuck).
§ How would you describe your magazine to someone who has never seen or heard of it before?
I'm faced with this challenge daily! Pinups is a triannual publication that features nude male models. There are no words—just an exaggeration of the classic centerfold. The magazine exists in book form but can be taken apart and tiled to reveal a life-size image.
§ Do you like ice cream?
NO! I HATE milk. To me drinking milk is like drinking blood since it's body fluid. When I eat ice cream I taste milk. I love sorbet though.
§ Are there any music artists right now that move, effect or inspire you with your work or do you get your inspiration from other sources?

Stash Sundays
To continue on with Mustache Fridays theme, welcome to Stash Sundays here at Blew Magazine. We just love to keep a stiff upper lip here at our little homo magazine, and how better to do that by celebrating the newest issue of one of our favorite little dirty Homo magazines, PISSZINE issue 06. This issue is dedicated to, well, as you guessed it, that fantastic and fun loving lip caterpillar that makes us scream like 12 year old school girls at a Zack Effron mall signing (no seriously, you should hear us, its shameful). The month of the Mustache is in full swing, and we couldn't be happier. This issue is packed with amazingly dirty artists, and we can't wait to get our filthy little paws on it.
Where we keep a stiff upper lip and think long and hard about of Tom Selleck.
Where a ‘flavour savour’ can help a man to change his look, flee a city and live under an assumed name.
Where a ‘tache can frame a smile and make you a hot daddy, a 70’s porn star clone or maybe just a web designer with an eye for irony.
Come on in.
Let us tickle your fancy."
